The accolades just keep rolling in for Westlake quarterback and Clemson commit Cade Klubnik, who has been named the 2021-22 Gatorade Texas Football Player of the Year and is now in the running for 2021-2022 Gatorade National Football Player of the Year.

“On a mission. Job not done,” Klubnik tweeted.

Klubnik, who is fresh from leading the undefeated Chaparrals to a 6A state semifinal victory over previously unbeaten Katy, is vying for National Football Player of the Year against Tetairoa McMillan of California and Nick Singleton of Pennsylvania. Some achievements of Klubnik include completing 147 of 207 passes for 2,486 yards and 34 touchdowns, with two interceptions through 13 games. He was also named the USA Today Offensive Player of the Year as a junior and MVP of the Elite 11 quarterback competition.

Klubnik is the first Westlake player to win the state version of the Football Player of the Year honor. He looks to guide the Chaparrals to their third straight 6A crown. Even off the field, Klubnik has maintained a good performance by getting an A average in the classroom and volunteering locally on behalf of the Special Olympics and youth sports programs. All of this goes on to show his exemplary character both on and off the field.

Westlake continued its streak of perfection by defeating Katy 45-14. It has been 39 games since the Chaparrals last suffered a loss.
