Robert Luckritz has been named the new head of Austin’s Emergency Medical Services, the city announced.
“Congrats to Robert Luckritz, our next EMS Chief! I look forward to your confirmation at our Feb. 17 council meeting and your future service to our community,” Austin Mayor Steve Adler tweeted. “Thank you to Jasper Brown for your hard work and leadership as interim EMS chief since June of 2021.”
Luckritz emerged out of a field of 37 applicants that was whittled down to five finalists last month, KXAN reported. He bested his soon-to-be predecessor, interim chief Jasper Brown, for the position, the station said.
Luckritz said he intends to “[create] opportunities to support and empower employees of the department in order to provide exceptional EMS services to the residents of Austin and Travis County,” according to KVUE.
He will lead an agency that serves more than 2.2 million people, overseeing strategic planning, leadership and oversight of all operations of the EMS department, the station said.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to be the City of Austin’s next EMS Chief,” Luckritz said in a statement. “I look forward to creating opportunities to support and empower employees of the department in order to provide exceptional EMS services to the residents of Austin and Travis County.”
The Austin City Council is expected to confirm the appointment Feb. 17, KVUE reported.
Luckritz has more than 25 years of experience in the EMS field as a paramedic, instructor, field supervisor and hospital leader, the station said.
Currently, Luckritz is the chief operating officer of Transformative Healthcare in New England, the story said.
