On July 13, 2025, Austin Police Department officers responded to a shooting incident on Duval Street. A female witness reported a man waving a gun and fleeing in an SUV. The victim, Steven Conn, was identified as the driver of the vehicle where the suspect, Jose Duron, allegedly committed the crime.

Duron reportedly attempted to rob Conn and his girlfriend before driving off with Conn’s Ford Bronco. Despite efforts by police units to locate Conn, he remained missing until July 15 when investigators traced digital evidence leading them to search fields in southeast Austin. Conn’s body was discovered north of Loyola Lane and pronounced dead that evening.

The arrest warrants for Duron were subsequently updated to Capital Murder. He was apprehended on July 16 in North Austin. This case marks the city’s 33rd homicide of the year.

The public is urged to contact Austin Police Department with any information regarding this case at 512-974-TIPS or anonymously through Capital Area Crime Stoppers at austincrimestoppers.org or 512-472-8477.
