On July 1, 2025, at around 10:16 p.m., emergency services responded to a call at the Kerby Lane restaurant parking lot located at 3003 S Lamar Boulevard. The Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) and Austin Police Department (APD) officers arrived to find a male victim on the ground. The victim was identified as Mark Barbosa, who was later pronounced dead at 10:40 p.m. despite life-saving efforts by ATCEMS.

Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists were called to process the area and gather witness statements. The investigation revealed that Barbosa had gone to the location to pick up his girlfriend. Jacob Turner, also there for his girlfriend along with a friend, approached Barbosa, leading to an altercation. Turner physically assaulted Barbosa, causing him to fall near a blue Nissan vehicle. Following the incident, Turner left the scene with his friend and girlfriend in the Nissan.

The medical examination determined that Barbosa’s death resulted from blunt force trauma and classified it as a homicide. Jacob Turner has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and is currently held in Travis County Jail.

Authorities urge anyone with additional information regarding this case to contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS or submit tips anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477.

This incident marks Austin’s 32nd homicide of the year.
