Fatal traffic accident claims life of juvenile driver in Austin

On Friday, May 17, at approximately 1:31 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a single-vehicle crash at FM 969 Road and the Ed Bluestein Boulevard NB Service Road. One adult and four juveniles, including the driver, were traveling in the vehicle. The juvenile driver, Syniah Norvell, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased on Sunday, May 19, 2024. The four other passengers were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 27th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 27 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, there had been 35 fatal crashes resulting in 35 fatalities.

These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and the investigation is still pending. Fatality information may change.
