On April 6, 2025, at approximately 2:34 p.m., a fatal crash occurred at the intersection of S. Capital TX HWY SB and Lost Creek Blvd in Austin. The Austin Police Department (APD) responded to the incident involving two vehicles. Mendi Leggett, identified as a white female born on March 11, 1962, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants from the same vehicle were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver and passenger of the first vehicle involved in the crash were unharmed and cooperated with authorities. The driver was not impaired. This incident marks Austin’s 23rd fatal crash of 2025, resulting in 27 fatalities so far this year. In comparison, on the same date in 2024, there had been 21 fatal crashes resulting in 21 deaths.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing, and initial assessments may change as more information becomes available.
