On June 6, 2025, at approximately 11:36 p.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a traffic incident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian near the 400 block of South US HWY 183 SB. The pedestrian, whose identity remains unknown, was declared dead at the scene.

The driver involved in the crash stayed on site and is cooperating with authorities. According to APD, the driver was not impaired and sustained minor injuries that required transport to a local hospital.

This case marks Austin’s 39th fatal crash of the year, bringing the total number of fatalities to 43. In comparison, by this date in 2024, there had been 33 fatal crashes resulting in 34 deaths.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. “These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and the investigation is still pending,” noted APD officials. They also mentioned that “fatality information may change.”
