Fatal collision on North Mopac Expressway results in two deaths

On Sunday, July 14, 2024, at 5:39 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a collision between a sports-utility vehicle and a pickup truck in the 12000 Block of North Mopac Expressway southbound. Both drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The incident is being investigated as Austin’s 43rd fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 46 fatalities for the year. On the same date in 2023, there had been 52 fatal crashes resulting in 52 fatalities.

These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and the investigation is still pending. Fatality information may change.
