Courtney Patton, a multifaceted artist known for her work as a mother, wife, producer, singer, songwriter, and musician, has announced her new album titled “Electrostatic,” released in 2022. This project marks a significant evolution in her musical journey.
Patton’s latest album was shaped during the pandemic when live concerts were halted. Together with her husband Jason Eady, she launched the weekly program Sequestered Songwriters to keep live music alive. The show featured many of their close musical friends and paid tribute to influential artists such as Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, Vince Gill, Eagles, and Don Williams. Through this period of weekly performances and dedications, Patton’s songwriting craft evolved significantly.
Discussing the new album “Electrostatic,” Patton said: “I didn’t initially start the project with this intent, but as we were making it, I could hear all of my musical heroes and influences organically coming out in each song. And that brought me so much joy.” This album stands out from her previous work due to its deeper musical depth while maintaining the personal and open-book songwriting style she is known for.
The title track is especially personal for Patton as it is dedicated to her sister who passed away nearly two decades ago in a vehicle accident. Reflecting on this song’s significance, Patton stated: “It’s a song about finding the beauty still around us in the memories of those that we’ve loved and lost. If energy can’t be created or destroyed then we can see and feel them all around us every day. Beauty from ashes.”
Patton co-produced “Electrostatic” with Jason Eady and Gordy Quist from Band of Heathens. The album features contributions from several notable musicians including Geoff Queen on guitar and pedal steel; Trevor Nealon on piano and keyboards; Heather Stalling on fiddle; Richard Millsap on drums; Naj Conklin on bass; and Jamie Lin Wilson along with Kelley Mickwee providing backing vocals.
“Electrostatic” follows Patton’s previous solo albums “Triggering a Flood” (2013), “So This Is Life” (2015), her acoustic collaborative project with Jason Eady titled “Something Together” (2017), and the Billboard-charting project “What It’s Like To Fly Alone” (2018).
