Congress has approved legislation to extend current federal government funding levels through December 20. This move also extends the authorization of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) until the same date.

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has expressed its support for the NFIP, highlighting its importance to both the economy and the housing industry. “NAHB believes that the NFIP is critically important for the economy, and the housing industry specifically,” stated a representative from NAHB. “Moving forward, we will continue to work with Congress to achieve a long-term reauthorization of the NFIP that will keep the program fiscally sound and let builders provide safe and affordable housing.”

The extension comes just days before both the NFIP and federal government were set to shut down.
