The Austin City Council has announced that the upcoming Council meeting on May 16 will include a General Public Communication period at 12 p.m., allowing individuals to address the council on items not on the agenda. This decision comes after the City had initially planned to focus solely on the Spring 2024 Land Development Code Amendments.

In response to a recent court decision extending a Temporary Restraining Order regarding City Council meeting procedures, the City has decided to reinstate the General Public Communication period out of caution. This provides an opportunity for community members to voice their concerns and opinions during the Council meeting.

Registration for speaking slots will open on Tuesday, May 7, at 9 a.m. and will close on Tuesday, May 14, at 4:30 p.m. Those interested in speaking can register by phone, in person at the Office of the City Clerk, or online.

This move aims to ensure transparency and public engagement in the City’s decision-making processes, allowing residents to participate and have their voices heard on important matters.
