City of Austin City Council met March 1.

WORK SESSION

The City Council of Austin, Texas convened in a Work Session Meeting at 301 W. Second Street, Austin, TX and via Videoconference.

Mayor Adler called the Council Meeting to order at 11: 13 a.m.

Council Member s Natasha Harper-Madison, Renteria and Pool were remote. 

D. COUNCIL DISCUSSION

Dl. Discussion concerning Council policy on cancelling Council meetings when local school districts cancel classes due to unforeseen circumstances.

Direction was given to staff that on days of inclement weather or other unexpected crisis where school districts close that a scheduled council meeting would also be cancelled provided there are no time sensitive or urgent matters.

D2. Discussion regarding the market study for Council staff and the relationship between Municipal Civil Service and rules applicable to Council staff.

The Mayor recessed the meeting to go into Executive Session at 12:15 p.m.

E. EXECUTIVE SESSION

The City Council went into Executive Session, pursuant to Chapter 551 of the Texas Government Code, to receive advice from Legal Counsel, to discuss matters of land acquisition, litigation, and personnel matters as specifically listed on this agenda and to receive advice from Legal Counsel regarding any other item on this agenda.

Discuss information related to cybersecurity matters, including assessments and deployments 01 personnel and devices, audits, network security information and information technology resources, and critical infrastructure (Deliberation regarding security devices or security audits – Section 551.076 and 551.089 of the Government Code).

E2. Discuss legal issues involved with lawsuits and claims related to Austin Police Department during the protests that occurred on May 30 and 31, 2020 (Private consultation with legal counsel – Section 551.071 of the Government Code).

E3. Discuss legal issues related to a personal injury claim made by Brad Levi Ayala (Private consultation with legal counsel -Section 551.071 of the Government Code)

E4. Discuss the employment, duties, compensation and evaluation of the City Manager (Personnel matters -Section 551.074 of the Government Code).

Executive Session ended and the Mayor reconvened the meeting at 3:40 p.m.

Presentation was given by Jason Jon Michael, Assistant Director, Jacob Culberson, Division Manager, Jason Redfern, Manager, Austin Transportation Department.

Mayor Adler adjourned the meeting at 4:20 p.m. without objection.

The minutes were approved on this the 24th day of March 2022 on Council Member Pool’s motion, Council Member  Fuentes second on a 11-0 vote.
