The City of Austin has announced its schedule for Independence Day holiday closures. On Thursday, July 4, several city facilities will be closed, while others will operate on modified schedules.

City recreation centers, senior centers, museums and cultural centers, the Austin Nature & Science Center, and Zilker Botanical Garden will be closed. However, city parks, playgrounds, and tennis centers will remain open during their regular hours. Golf ATX courses will also be open with holiday rates. Aquatic facilities will operate from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., except Barton Springs Pool and Deep Eddy Pools which will follow their usual hours. Detailed pool hours can be found at AustinTexas.gov/Pools.

All branches of the Austin Public Library, including the Central Library and the Austin History Center, will be closed but are set to reopen on July 5. Remote library resources remain accessible via library.austintexas.gov.

Austin Resource Recovery services such as trash, recycling, and composting collections will not experience any changes due to the holiday. The Recycle and Reuse Drop-off Center along with administrative offices will close for the day; however, Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant remains open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Both walk-in branches of Austin Energy Utility Customer Service Centers and the Utility Contact Center (call center) will be closed on July 4. Customers can still make utility bill payments online at COAutilities.com.

Austin Public Health’s Environmental Health Services at Rutherford Lane Campus along with all WIC clinics and Neighbor Centers will also close for Independence Day.

The Austin Animal Center is scheduled to close but resume normal operations on July 5.

Downtown Austin Community Court services including Violet KeepSafe Storage program (VKS), Homeless Services, Court Services, and Community Services are set to close for the holiday but reopen at their regular times on July 5: VKS at 7 a.m., Community Services at 7:30 a.m., and Homeless Services & Court Services at 8 a.m.

The City encourages residents to plan their transportation in advance for safe return home after celebrations by visiting austintexas.gov/gethomesafe for options. Additional safety tips are available online.

Residents are reminded that fireworks possession within city limits is illegal; complaints should be directed through the Austin 3-1-1 mobile app rather than calling emergency services directly.

For pet safety during fireworks displays around Lady Bird Lake starting approximately at 10 p.m., it is advised to keep pets indoors with current ID tags or microchips as more animals end up in shelters on this day than any other time of year.

For further information or service-related questions contact City services via phone or through the Austin 3-1-1 mobile app.
