The Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (CapMetro) will resume most of its services at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 2, following weather-related disruptions in Austin and Central Texas. Bus, Pickup, CapMetro Access, and MetroBike services will be available, while CapMetro Rail remains suspended for another day.

The agency decided on a delayed start to allow time for assessing roadway conditions and ensuring the safety of staff and passengers. Ongoing route reviews are being conducted to determine if detours are necessary.

Customers who have scheduled trips with CapMetro Access before 10 a.m. will be contacted by staff to discuss possible rescheduling. For those unable to reschedule, the agency will continue providing essential transportation—such as dialysis trips—if road conditions permit.

CapMetro Rail service is not expected to operate on Thursday so crews can confirm power restoration and test all crossings in preparation for potential service on Friday. CapMetro Express routes, most Flyer Routes, and Rail Connectors 465 and 466 will also remain out of operation. Customers needing alternative options are advised to call the Customer Service GO line at 512-474-1200.

Operator shortages due to school closures and weather impacts may cause further delays. The agency has asked riders for patience during this period.

“Suspending and delaying service is an incredibly difficult decision that we do not make lightly,” said CapMetro President & CEO Dottie Watkins. “It is not lost on me how important and crucial our services are to our community. However, we had to make this decision with safety being the number one factor, for our customers and our staff.”

Even as limited service resumes, hazards such as ice or fallen trees may persist in some areas around Central Texas and near bus stops. CapMetro encourages caution among passengers and emphasizes that operations will only occur where conditions are safe.

CapMetro provides public transportation across Austin and Central Texas with a focus on accessibility, inclusivity, safety, equity, community engagement, innovation, transparency, and customer satisfaction through a board-governed structure https://www.capmetro.org/. The organization supports more than 31 million boardings each year https://www.capmetro.org/.
