CapMetro will provide free rides on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, to help ensure equal access to voting locations for all community members in Austin and Central Texas. The public agency aims to make it easier for residents to reach polling places by offering fare-free service on its bus and rail lines.

The agency noted that even individuals who own cars may face parking challenges at some polling sites. CapMetro’s transit services are positioned as a convenient alternative, allowing voters to avoid parking difficulties and associated costs.

To assist riders in planning their trips, CapMetro has published a list of polling locations matched with available transit options. Customers can also use the Trip Planner online or through the CapMetro App by entering “election” or “polling place” into the search bar. This feature provides a list of voting sites in both Travis and Williamson Counties.

In addition to regular transit services, CapMetro Bikeshare is offering a special pass called “I Voted” on Election Day. This pass allows users a 60-minute bike checkout via the Bikeshare app at no charge. Bikes must be returned to a docking station within 60 minutes to avoid extra fees. A credit card is required for all Bikeshare accounts, with a temporary $24 hold placed for the first 24 hours to cover any potential overage charges.

According to the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s official website, the organization serves diverse communities with an emphasis on accessibility and inclusivity (https://www.capmetro.org/). Each year, CapMetro supports more than 31 million boardings (https://www.capmetro.org/) and works to empower and enhance the region through responsible public transportation (https://www.capmetro.org/). The authority operates under a board-appointed structure with committees dedicated to finance, audit, administration, operations, planning and safety (https://www.capmetro.org/), serving Austin and Central Texas (https://www.capmetro.org/).

The organization’s approach centers on safety, equity and community engagement while promoting sustainable access across the region (https://www.capmetro.org/). Dottie Watkins currently serves as president and chief executive officer of CapMetro (https://www.capmetro.org/).
