CapMetro is implementing several initiatives to improve public transportation in Central Texas. The agency’s efforts include new bikeshare stations, upgrades to fare payment systems, and the construction of a new station. These projects are part of CapMetro’s broader strategy to enhance the customer experience and address the region’s growing transit needs.

New bikeshare stations will be installed throughout the city through early 2026. These stations are intended to provide more neighborhoods with access to first- and last-mile transit options. CapMetro has also improved fare payment by integrating the Umo and Transit apps, allowing riders to pay fares directly from the Transit app.

Construction has begun for the North Burnet/Uptown Station, with site preparation underway and building scheduled to start in November 2025. The station will feature double-length platforms, pedestrian and bike pathways, bus connections, and approximately 200 shared parking spaces. CapMetro expects this station to become the second-busiest on the Red Line and serve as a major entry point to Uptown ATX.

CapMetro has developed a Customer Experience Hub that focuses on three main areas: frequency and reliability, rules and fares enforcement, and transit phone apps. According to recent findings, overall satisfaction with CapMetro is at 69%, while satisfaction with operator courtesy is at 74%. The agency is inviting customers to review these results and provide feedback.

CapMetro’s Strategic Plan 2030 moves away from annual targets in favor of five-year goals. This plan outlines 18 action items, such as improving security measures and advancing digital transformation, to guide resource allocation and measure success.

The Transit Plan 2035 was approved by CapMetro’s Board on October 20, 2025. The plan was reviewed by riders and is set to be implemented over the coming years.

In addition, CapMetro launched its Transit Police department in 2025 and marked its 40th year of service. These efforts support CapMetro’s ongoing focus on safety, equity, and sustainability.

CapMetro states that its upgrades, new stations, and policies are all aimed at improving daily experiences for riders.
