CapMetro and Brandywine Realty Trust have started preparing the site for the North Burnet/Uptown Station in Austin, Texas. The new station, previously known as Broadmoor Station, will be part of CapMetro’s Red Line and is expected to begin full construction in November 2025.

The partnership between CapMetro and Brandywine Realty Trust is designed to support transit-oriented development in North Austin. The station aims to become one of the busiest stops on the Red Line, providing improved rail access for commuters, residents, and visitors in a fast-growing area.

Dottie Watkins, President & CEO of CapMetro, said: “This marks a strong step forward in building a smarter, more connected future for Central Texas. The North Burnet/Uptown Station isn’t just about expanding transit — it’s about creating meaningful access to opportunity in one of our region’s fastest-growing corridors. This progress reflects the strength of our public-private partnership with Brandywine Realty Trust and underscores CapMetro’s leadership in shaping strategic collaborations that maximize public investment, serve as responsible stewards of public dollars, and deliver long-term value to our community.”

Kyle McDonald, Vice President of Development at Brandywine Realty Trust, added: “This station is more than just a transit stop—it’s a symbol of what’s possible when public agencies and private developers come together with a shared vision. Our partnership with CapMetro provides accessibility to people who want the best of both worlds in Austin, from downtown to Uptown.”

Located within the 66-acre Uptown ATX development north of Kramer Station, the new facility will feature two double-length platforms for higher capacity service and over half a mile of double track to improve reliability. Additional features include pedestrian- and bike-friendly pathways, connections to local bus routes for better integration across transit modes, 200 shared parking spaces for customers, and safety enhancements such as lighting and surveillance.

Brandywine Realty Trust is contributing land and infrastructure planning while CapMetro oversees operational aspects. Both organizations will coordinate updates regarding construction progress and any impacts on service.

Austin City Councilmember Mike Siegel commented: “I am excited that the construction of the North Burnet/Uptown Rail Station will commence this October. This is a testament to the hard work of city staff and CapMetro in the ongoing effort to listen to residents who continue to seek accessible, high-quality public transportation. Supportive of Project Connect service expansion, The North Burnet/Uptown Rail Station will provide a convenient stop near the Domain for regional-wide travelers to connect to work and play while gaining access to the rest of the CapMetro transit network.”

The Uptown ATX district already has nearly 400 apartments and 350,000 square feet of office space completed. Further commercial, residential, retail, hospitality, office developments—and additional green space—are planned as part of continued growth.
