Bicyclist dies after collision with pickup truck in Austin

On July 13, 2025, at 2:26 a.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a collision involving a pickup truck and a bicyclist at Montopolis Drive and Carnation Terrace. The bicyclist, identified as Reginaldo Perez, was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup truck stayed at the scene, showed no signs of impairment, and cooperated with authorities.

Reginaldo Perez was pronounced dead on July 15. This incident marks Austin’s 51st fatal crash in 2025, resulting in 55 fatalities. In comparison, by this date in 2024, there were 42 fatal crashes leading to 44 deaths.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing, and initial findings may change.
