The Austin Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HSEM) will host an Emergency Preparedness Pop-Up event at the Spicewood Springs Branch Library on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. This initiative aims to help the Central Texas community prepare for summer hazards such as wildfires and extreme heat.

Typically held on the third Wednesday of each month, this month’s event has been rescheduled due to City facility closures in observance of Juneteenth on June 19.

Representatives from HSEM and other city departments, along with public safety partners, will be present to provide tips, information, and supplies. The first 25 attendees will receive an emergency supply kit, limited to one per household.

“Our Emergency Preparedness Pop-Ups are an opportunity for members of the Central Texas community to learn about getting prepared before emergencies and stock up on free supplies,” stated a representative from HSEM. The Basic Emergency Preparedness Kits include items valued over $100 such as backpacks, lanterns, glow sticks, personal cooling supplies, battery-powered chargers, NOAA weather radios, Neighborhood Preparedness Guides, and items for children and pets.

This pop-up event is part of a monthly series hosted by HSEM across different City Council Districts throughout the year. For more information about emergency preparedness steps or upcoming events, visit ReadyCentralTexas.org.
