The city of Austin will seek applications for its Economic Development Department’s (EDD) Art in Public Places Program (AIPP) beginning later this month. The window opens on September 24 and will close October 22.
According to a September 10 press release issued by the city, the AIPP will launch five new open-call opportunities for local professional visual artists and artist-led teams to create public artworks across seven locations throughout the state capital.
These projects will carry budgets ranging from $100,000 to $625,000.
According to the release, the open calls include Elisabet Ney Museum Grounds, Armadillo Water Tank Mural, Walter E. Long & John Treviño Metro Parks, Johnny Morris Road and Ross Road, and Red Bud Isle.
EDD head Sylnovia Holt-Rabb said in the release that the open calls show the EDD’s ongoing efforts to enrich the city’s public spaces with artwork that celebrates its diversity and sparks innovation and cultural relevance, as well as keep true to the “Keep Austin Weird” mantra.
Applicants can learn about each open call through a series of virtual and in-person sessions until October 22, according to the release.
Through these sessions, applicants will receive resources and guidance, with some available in Spanish.
