There were approximately 67,668 job postings in the Austin area during April 2025, an increase from the previous month’s 64,458. First-time job postings rose to 28,135, representing 42% of all available postings, consistent with March’s figures. The Austin and San Antonio metros saw a 4% rise in new job postings, while Houston and Dallas experienced a 3% increase.
Management occupations accounted for about 12% of all postings, with healthcare practitioners and technical roles following closely. Combined healthcare-related postings totaled 8,279. Sales-related jobs made up 11% of the total with 7,626 postings, as did computer and math-related positions with 7,248.
A decrease was noted in job postings offering signing bonuses, totaling 1,803 this month. Over half of the available jobs offered annual median wages between $25,000 and $75,000. Among these positions, nearly half required only a high school diploma for entry-level education.
Internship opportunities numbered around 1,044. Amazon remained one of the top companies posting jobs alongside the State of Texas and AMD. Within Austin’s venture capital ecosystem alone, there were over 3,000 jobs posted.
The unemployment rate in the Austin MSA dropped to 3.1%, with approximately 48,000 individuals unemployed—a reduction from March’s figures. There were significantly more job openings than unemployed individuals by nearly 20,000.
New relocation or expansion plans announced during March and April brought an additional 2,497 jobs to the region. Notable contributors included T1 Energy with plans for creating 1,800 jobs and SpaceX adding another 400 through expansions.
The report highlights that many job postings require postsecondary education beyond high school. In tech occupations specifically, most roles necessitate at least a bachelor’s degree.
Skills such as communication and customer service are highly sought after by employers across various sectors. Healthcare certifications like registered nursing remain in demand.
Top employers include Amazon and The University of Texas at Austin among others contributing to the area’s employment landscape.
