Austin records its 60th traffic fatality after South Austin intersection crash

Austin Police Department officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of South 1st Street and West William Cannon Drive on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 2:37 p.m. According to police, the driver of one vehicle was taken to the hospital following the crash. The driver of the second vehicle, identified as Samson Seablom, was pronounced dead at the scene. In addition, a pedestrian was struck by debris and transported to the hospital.

Police have reported that this incident marks Austin’s 60th fatal crash in 2025, resulting in a total of 64 fatalities so far this year. At this point last year, there had been 55 fatal crashes with 59 deaths.

Authorities stated that “these statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and the investigation is still pending. Fatality information may change.”
