Austin records its 59th traffic fatality of the year

Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a fatal single-vehicle crash early Friday morning on August 8, 2025. The incident occurred at approximately 4:04 a.m. in the 100 block of West Slaughter Lane. The driver, identified as Akeal Nechoma Brown, was pronounced dead at the scene.

This crash marks Austin’s 59th fatal collision of the year, bringing the total number of fatalities to 63. Comparatively, by this date in 2024, there had been 51 fatal crashes resulting in 54 deaths.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing, and authorities note that details may change as more information becomes available.
