The City of Austin is gearing up for a protest scheduled for Saturday, June 14, at the Texas Capitol grounds. The event is set to start at 5 p.m. and conclude by 8 p.m.
“The Austin Police Department fully supports and upholds the constitutional right to peacefully assemble and the freedom of the press,” said Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis. She emphasized that their main focus is on ensuring the safety of demonstrators, bystanders, and officers. The department aims to maintain peace and protect life and property.
To manage community safety and traffic, there will be an increased police presence on Saturday. Event organizers plan to make announcements during the protest about the agenda, expected end time, and safety reminders. Attendees are advised to leave the grounds safely in an orderly manner once the event concludes at 8 p.m.
Participants are encouraged to plan their departure in advance due to anticipated heavy traffic. Options include shared transportation, biking, walking, or using CapMetro’s additional routes and extended services.
Authorities have warned that any unlawful or violent behavior will be addressed appropriately. “I encourage and trust the people of Austin to let their voices be heard peacefully and in the right way,” said Mayor Kirk Watson. He highlighted Austin’s tradition of expressing opinions without chaos.
