The Austin Police Department’s North Metro Tactical Unit has conducted a two-month investigation targeting seven high-crime areas in North Austin, known for open-air drug markets. The operation was based on statistical analysis of crime reports and service calls to identify locations with ongoing criminal activity.

Six of the seven targeted areas were designated as Drug Free Zones under Texas Health and Safety Code Section 481.134, which includes locations within 1,000 feet of schools, youth centers, or playgrounds. These hotspots have been associated with offenses such as assaults, thefts, robberies, weapon-related crimes, prostitution, vandalism, and disturbances that impact residents’ quality of life.

The police secured arrest warrants for several suspects connected to these areas. Working alongside the Major Crimes Suppression Unit (MCSU), patrol officers, and the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Organized Crime Unit Austin Division, the North Metro Tactical Unit carried out targeted operations resulting in multiple arrests and uncovering additional criminal activities.

A total of 19 individuals were arrested during these operations for various offenses. The cases span several dates and locations across North Austin:
