On August 3, 2025, a vehicle crashed into a restaurant at 4800 Burnet Rd. in Austin. The incident occurred around 3:23 a.m., following reports of erratic driving and speeding. Upon arrival, officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) discovered significant damage to the restaurant but found no one inside the vehicle or building.
The driver was identified as Darien Bowyer, a 23-year-old white male. Investigations revealed that Bowyer had stolen the Ford truck involved in the crash from a family member earlier that night. Witnesses observed him driving recklessly, including running a red light near Gusto Kitchen and Wine Bar before losing control and hitting the restaurant.
The APD has charged Bowyer with several offenses: Criminal Mischief – Felony 3, Reckless Driving – Class B Misdemeanor, and Driving While License Invalid – Class B Misdemeanor. The collision caused property damage and forced the temporary closure of the establishment, resulting in financial losses.
Authorities have received information suggesting that Bowyer may have left Texas. The APD advises anyone who sees him or knows his whereabouts to contact law enforcement immediately by calling 9-1-1.
