Austin police seek public’s help after hit-and-run injures three cyclists

On Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at around 8:24 a.m., a collision occurred at the intersection of W Slaughter Lane and Escarpment Blvd in Austin. According to the Austin Police Department (APD) Highway Enforcement Unit, a light-colored small four-door SUV or hatchback—possibly a Mazda 5—ran a red light and struck three bicyclists: an adult male and two juveniles aged four and three. After the crash, the vehicle continued traveling westbound on W Slaughter Lane without stopping.

The APD has released video footage of the incident on its YouTube channel to assist with identifying the suspect vehicle. The department describes the vehicle as possibly being an SUV or hatchback, with four doors and light in color.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to submit tips anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information that leads to an arrest.
