Austin Police Department detectives are asking for the public’s help in locating Darien Bowyer, a 23-year-old white male, who is suspected of criminal mischief after a vehicle crashed into a restaurant at 4800 Burnet Rd. on August 3, 2025.

According to police, Austin 9-1-1 received a call at approximately 3:23 a.m. about a vehicle that had been speeding and driving erratically before colliding with the building. When officers arrived, they found significant damage to the restaurant but did not locate any occupants inside. The vehicle was left at the scene without its driver.

Detectives from the Highway Investigations Unit identified Bowyer as the suspect. They determined that he had stolen the Ford truck involved in the crash from a family member earlier that night. Witnesses reported seeing Bowyer drive recklessly and run a red light north of Gusto Kitchen and Wine Bar before losing control and crashing into the restaurant. The incident caused property damage and forced the business to close temporarily.

Bowyer faces charges of Criminal Mischief (Felony 3), Reckless Driving (Class B Misdemeanor), and Driving While License Invalid (Class B Misdemeanor).

The Austin Police Department describes Bowyer as a white male, 5’6″ tall, and 23 years old. Authorities believe he may have fled the state.

“If you see the suspect or know his location, please call 9-1-1 and do not attempt to make contact.  You can also submit your tip anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477,” APD said in a statement.
