The Austin Police Department has announced a DWI No Refusal Initiative that will be in effect throughout the summer. The enforcement initiative commenced on June 1, 2024, and will continue every night, Monday through Sunday, until August 31, 2024.

This initiative aims to enforce DWI laws and ensure public safety by encouraging drivers to make responsible decisions. It includes applying for blood search warrants on suspects who refuse to provide a breath or blood specimen as required by law. The focus will also be on highways and high-speed roadways.

The Austin Police Department, in collaboration with the City of Austin Transportation and Public Works Department, remains committed to preventing fatalities on Austin’s streets, highways, and waterways. Their efforts are geared towards making these areas safe for both residents and visitors through education and enforcement.
