Austin Police have initiated a new crime reduction strategy in Northeast Austin, focusing on an area known for persistent violent crime. The 900 E. Braker Lane location has experienced issues with violent crime, weapons violations, sex crimes, and alcohol violations over several years. To address these concerns, the Austin Police Department implemented a Place Network Investigation (PNI) at this site.
The PNI approach is based on the understanding that crime tends to concentrate in specific areas and that these patterns often remain despite police interventions. Following months of data analysis and research, officers received training on PNI and related strategies. The Northeast Area Command collaborated with partner agencies to create a comprehensive plan aimed at reducing crime and restoring community safety.
On September 26, 2025, a coordinated operation was launched involving multiple divisions within the Austin Police Department and various city and federal agencies. This included the Organized Crime Division, SWAT, Victim Services, Austin Fire Department, City of Austin Development Services, Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC), and the FBI.
The operation targeted two locations: Diablos and Michelobos. A search warrant executed at Diablos led to the seizure of illegal gaming machines and alcoholic beverages, resulting in three arrests. The ongoing investigation continues following this search warrant execution.
At Michelobos, an inspection revealed numerous violations leading to citations from the Austin Fire Marshal’s Office and additional alcohol seizures by TABC.
Those arrested include Wilfrido Majera-Medina for probation violation related to cocaine possession under a Florida warrant; Gisela Morales for selling illicit beverages; and Miguel Ramos also for selling illicit beverages.
