Austin police investigate fatal two-vehicle collision on IH-35 southbound

Austin police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred early Saturday morning in the 3400 block of North Interstate Highway 35 southbound lower deck. Officers responded to the scene at approximately 12:14 a.m. after receiving reports of a crash involving a sedan and a semi-trailer truck. The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet identified the deceased.

According to police, this incident marks Austin’s 62nd fatal crash of 2025, resulting in 66 fatalities so far this year. By comparison, on the same date in 2024, there had been 56 fatal crashes and 60 deaths.

Police emphasized that their statements reflect an initial assessment and that details may change as the investigation continues.

“These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and the investigation is still pending. Fatality information may change.”
