Austin police are investigating a homicide that occurred early Saturday morning, August 2, 2025, at the intersection of North IH 35 Southbound Frontage Road and East 8th Street. Officers responded to a call at approximately 3:20 a.m. about an individual bleeding in the area.
Upon arrival, officers found Jerry Roland, a Black male born October 12, 1964, unresponsive and bleeding on the ground. Roland was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas but was pronounced dead at 3:50 a.m.
Witnesses identified Scott Graves, a White male aged 39, as the suspect. According to police investigators, “the investigation revealed that Mr. Roland walked to Graves’ tent. Graves exited his tent and stabbed Mr. Roland. Graves then dragged his own tent away from the area and walked away before he was detained by officers.”
Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists processed the scene and interviewed witnesses following the incident.

This incident marks Austin’s thirty-sixth homicide of 2025.
