Austin police investigate fatal single-car crash on West Slaughter Lane

Austin police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred early Friday morning in the 100 block of West Slaughter Lane. Officers responded to the scene at approximately 4:04 a.m. on August 8, 2025.

The driver, identified as Akeal Nechoma Brown, a Black male born on August 12, 1996, was pronounced dead at the scene.

This incident marks Austin’s 59th fatal crash of 2025, with a total of 63 fatalities so far this year. By comparison, there were 51 fatal crashes and 54 deaths by this date in 2024.

According to authorities, “These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and the investigation is still pending. Fatality information may change.”
