On June 8, 2024, at approximately 6:01 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a shooting incident in the parking lot of the Waffle House located at 12304 Dessau Road. Upon arrival, officers found Tykeisha Lewis with an apparent gunshot wound. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (A/TCEMS) transported Ms. Lewis to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased at 8:21 a.m. A second female victim was also injured by the suspect’s gunfire and is currently in stable condition after being transported to a local hospital.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists processed the scene and interviewed witnesses. The investigation revealed that Ms. Lewis had been shot by a group of males following an argument with the group that included the two victims. The suspects subsequently fled the scene.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about this incident to contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.
This case marks Austin’s 25th homicide of 2024.
