Austin police investigate fatal shooting on Rosewood Avenue

On Friday, August 8, 2025, Austin Police Department officers responded to a shooting at 2609 Rosewood Avenue. The incident occurred around 6:46 p.m., and upon arrival, officers found Michael Atwood with a gunshot wound in an apartment. Despite efforts by Austin Travis County Emergency Medical Services to save him, Atwood was pronounced dead at 7:08 p.m.

Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists were called to the scene to gather evidence and interview witnesses. The investigation revealed that Douglas Clyde shot Atwood after seeing him with Clyde’s girlfriend, who was Atwood’s ex-girlfriend. Following the shooting, Clyde fled the area.

An arrest warrant for First Degree Murder was issued for Clyde on August 9, 2025. He was apprehended by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force/Tactical Intelligence Unit in Manor, Texas on August 11, 2025.

The Austin Police Department is seeking additional information related to this case. Tips can be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program online or by calling their hotline. A reward of up to $1,000 is offered for information leading to an arrest.

This incident marks Austin’s 38th homicide of the year.
