Austin police investigate fatal shooting on North Lamar Boulevard

Austin police are investigating the death of Carlin Elrod, a 29-year-old Black man, who was found with visible trauma at 10601 N Lamar Boulevard on November 15, 2025. Officers responded to a report of a deceased person at approximately 8:52 a.m., and Elrod was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:08 a.m.

According to police, homicide detectives and crime scene specialists processed the area and interviewed witnesses. The investigation has determined that Mr. Elrod was shot by an unknown suspect who left the location.

Authorities urge anyone with information about this case to contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program via their website or by calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.

Police confirmed that this incident is being investigated as Austin’s 50th homicide in 2025.
