Austin police investigate fatal shooting on Middle Fiskville Road

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at approximately 9:59 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex located at 9601 Middle Fiskville Road. Officers arrived and located a Hispanic male, later identified as Wilfredo Benitez-Jimenez, lying on the ground in the living room of the residence with apparent gunshot wounds. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (A/TCEMS) arrived and attempted medical aid, but Benitez was pronounced deceased at 10:13 p.m.

Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation showed that Benitez was shot inside his apartment by suspects who then fled the apartment complex in a vehicle.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477. A reward up to $1,000 may be available for any information that leads to an arrest.

This case is being investigated as Austin’s 23rd homicide of 2024.
