Austin Police are investigating a homicide that occurred on August 3, 2025, at 9811 North Interstate 35 service road northbound. Officers responded to a call at approximately 2:38 a.m. from a man who reported being shot near the La Michoacana Market. Upon arrival, police found the caller’s pickup truck with multiple bullet holes and discovered Miguel Mondragon, a Hispanic male born February 15, 1976, deceased in the grassy area between the highway and the front of the market. Mondragon had trauma consistent with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at 3:25 a.m.
According to Austin Police Department investigators, Mondragon and another victim left a nearby club with two friends before pulling into a parking lot to cut through to the road. At that point, two vehicles blocked them in. Several suspects approached their car armed with guns and demanded property. Police say Mondragon attempted to flee on foot but was shot and killed.
