Austin police investigate fatal shooting in field on Research Boulevard

Austin Police Department officers responded to a report of a deceased person in the 8100 block of Research Boulevard on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 7:42 a.m. Upon arrival, officers met with the individual who reported the incident and found an unresponsive female with visible trauma in a field. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:53 a.m.

According to police, homicide detectives and crime scene specialists processed the area and interviewed witnesses. The investigation is in its early stages, but authorities believe the victim was shot by an unknown suspect or suspects who left the area before police arrived.

Detectives are requesting assistance from anyone who may have seen or heard anything near the location during that time. They urge people to submit any tips or evidence using available online resources or by contacting law enforcement directly.

The Austin Police Department encourages anyone with information to call 512-974-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program via their website at austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477. There is a possibility of receiving up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.

Police have classified this incident as Austin’s 45th homicide of 2025.
