Austin police investigate fatal hit-and-run at South 1st Street and Orland Boulevard

On Saturday, October 4, 2025, at approximately 10:13 p.m., officers from the Austin Police Department responded to a report of a collision between a pedestrian and a motor vehicle at the intersection of South 1st Street and Orland Boulevard. The driver involved in the incident did not remain at the scene. The pedestrian, described as an unidentified white male, was pronounced dead at the location.

According to authorities, this marks Austin’s 75th fatal crash of 2025, with a total of 78 fatalities so far this year. By comparison, on the same date in 2024 there had been 68 fatal crashes resulting in 73 deaths. Police note that these figures are based on their initial assessment and may change as the investigation continues.

The Austin Police Department is asking anyone with information about this incident to contact its Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-8111. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.
