Austin police investigate city’s 50th traffic fatality of the year

On July 5, 2025, at around 9:31 p.m., officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of FM 973 and Spirit Drive. The driver, an unidentified male, was declared dead at the scene.

This incident marks Austin’s 50th fatal crash of the year, resulting in a total of 54 fatalities. In comparison, on the same date in 2024, there were 40 fatal crashes with 42 deaths. The investigation into this crash is ongoing, and details may change as more information becomes available.
