Austin police investigate city’s 34th homicide in Burton Drive shooting

On Thursday, July 18, 2024, at approximately 2:01 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to an urgent call. The caller stated someone had tried to kill his friend. Officers and EMS arrived on the scene and located the body of a male inside the residence who was identified as Jose Ramon Lizarraga Boca Negra. He had an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation showed that Jose had been shot inside his residence and the suspect then fled the area.

Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477. A reward up to $1,000 may be available for any information that leads to an arrest.

This case is being investigated as Austin’s 34th homicide of 2024.
