Austin police investigate city’s 20th homicide of 2024

On Sunday, May 5, 2024, at approximately 11:04 p.m., officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a Check Welfare call at the 700 block of West William Cannon Drive. The call was about a man who was found bleeding. Upon arrival, the officers discovered a male victim on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim was transported by Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (A/TCEMS) to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead at 7:13 a.m. Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Specialists were called in to process the scene and interview potential witnesses.

Investigations revealed that the victim had just arrived at an apartment complex with another person when he was shot by an unidentified suspect who subsequently fled the area. Detectives are still actively working on this homicide case and have appealed for anyone with any information to come forward.

Anonymous tips can be submitted through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for any information that leads to an arrest.

This case is currently being investigated as Austin’s 20th homicide of 2024.
