The Austin Police Department (APD) Lake Patrol Unit will enforce a ban on personal watercraft on Lake Austin during the Labor Day weekend. The prohibition, outlined in City Ordinance 8-5-81, covers devices such as jet skis, wet bikes, and motorized surfboards from sunset on Friday, August 29, 2025, until sunrise on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Non-motorized vessels like kayaks and canoes remain permitted.

The annual restriction aims to enhance safety for the numerous visitors expected at the lake and surrounding parks over the holiday period. The APD will patrol the area to ensure compliance with both local boating laws and the Texas Water Safety Act. Boaters are encouraged to practice safe boating and report any reckless behavior or emergencies by calling 9-1-1.

The ordinance also includes restrictions for other holidays such as Memorial Day and July Fourth. During these periods, similar bans are enforced to maintain order and safety on Lake Austin.

Both the Austin Parks and Recreation Department and the APD emphasize their goal of providing a safe environment for all who wish to enjoy the area’s natural resources during this busy time.
