Austin police arrest suspect following major downtown drug seizure

On September 3, 2025, the Austin Police Department (APD) Narcotics Support Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on 91 Red River Street as part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking and distribution in Austin. The operation focused on activities within the Downtown Area Command and East Austin.

Jesse Carrillo, a 33-year-old Hispanic male, was identified as a suspect during the investigation. Detectives obtained and executed the search warrant, leading to Carrillo’s arrest on charges of Money Laundering, classified as a Second-Degree Felony, and Delivery of a Controlled Substance, considered a First-Degree Felony.

During the search of the residence, detectives seized approximately 20.4 pounds of marijuana, 194 THC vape cartridges, about 2,900 grams of suspected psilocybin-laced candy bars, 8.6 grams of cocaine, and over $200,000 in U.S. currency. According to APD officials, additional felony charges are pending as the investigation continues.

Carrillo was taken into custody without incident.

The department stated: “The Austin Police Department remains committed to disrupting drug distribution networks that impact the safety of our community. This case reflects the ongoing work of APD’s specialized units to identify, investigate, and hold accountable those involved in organized drug trafficking within the city.”
