Austin police arrest multiple suspects in Mueller area shoplifting blitz

On July 14, 2025, the Austin Police Department’s North Metro Tactical Unit conducted a “shoplifting blitz” operation in the Mueller area. This initiative aimed to address growing concerns from local businesses about retail crime by swiftly apprehending shoplifters and taking appropriate enforcement actions.

During the operation, officers arrested several repeat offenders at various locations. At HEB/Twin Liquors Mueller on East 51st Street, suspects included Gilbert Torres (40), charged with theft by shoplifting (Class C Misdemeanor); Brenda Spradling (63) and Heath Mead (55), both charged with theft by shoplifting with two prior convictions (State Jail Felony); and Lazzete Hernandez (29), also charged with theft by shoplifting (Class C Misdemeanor).

At Marshalls and Old Navy on Barbara Jordan Boulevard, Aaron Chaffin (40) was arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle (State Jail Felony), while Sarah Green (38) faced charges of theft by shoplifting with two prior convictions (State Jail Felony).

Finally, at Home Depot on Barbara Jordan Boulevard, Justin Ussery (38) was apprehended for theft by shoplifting with two prior convictions (State Jail Felony).

The operation reflects ongoing efforts to support local retailers in combating retail crime.
