Austin police announce arrest in Lit Lounge shooting case

The Austin Police Department (APD) has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with a shooting at Lit Lounge on March 30, 2025. The suspect, identified as Troy Lee Tanksley, a 17-year-old Black male, was taken into custody by the APD Aggravated Assault Unit and the Gang Suppression Unit on July 14, 2025. Tanksley was initially arrested for an unrelated outstanding violent crime warrant.

Following his arrest, the Aggravated Assault Unit filed an arrest warrant against Tanksley for Aggravated Assault Mass Shooting 1st Degree Felony related to the Lit Lounge incident. He is currently held at Travis County Jail with a bond set at $100,000.

The original incident occurred at approximately 1:02 a.m. on March 30 when APD officers and Counter Assault Strike Team personnel responded to reports of a shooting at Lit Lounge located at 215 East 6th Street. Upon arrival, officers found four individuals with gunshot wounds who reported being shot inside the venue.

The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are requesting anyone with photos or videos from that night to submit them through provided channels. Individuals with information can contact APD’s Aggravated Assault unit or submit tips anonymously via the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.
