The Austin Parks Foundation released on Apr. 16 a list of six recommended hiking trails in the Austin area, encouraging residents to explore local parks and green spaces as spring arrives.
The recommendations highlight opportunities for outdoor activity and community engagement across several neighborhoods. The foundation aims to support equitable access to quality parks throughout Austin, according to the official website.
The suggested hikes include St. Edward’s Greenbelt, described as a destination for hikers and trail runners with a natural swimming hole; Spicewood Valley Trail, which offers an escape within the Spicewood Estates neighborhood; Hill of Life, known for its scenic views and challenging incline; Emma Long Metropolitan Park along Lake Austin with camping options; Commons Ford Ranch Metropolitan Park featuring miles of trails and quiet areas; and Bull Creek District Park, which connects to the Lower Bull Creek Greenbelt along Highway 360.
The foundation supports nearly 400 parks, trails, and green spaces throughout Austin’s neighborhoods according to the official website. It also seeks to enhance quality of life by improving access, safety, and vitality of these public areas for all residents.
In addition to direct support for parks maintenance and programming, the organization develops partnerships that advance Austin’s park system according to the official website. These efforts are intended not only to address funding needs but also promote social benefits by making outdoor spaces more accessible and vibrant for communities across the city.
As spring encourages more people outdoors, these recommendations reflect ongoing work by the foundation throughout Austin’s neighborhoods to serve public parks, trails, and green spaces.
