Beginning in the fall of 2025, Austin Parks and Recreation will change the age cutoff for youth sports participants to align with University Interscholastic League (UIL) standards. The new cutoff date will be January 1, replacing the previous September 1 date. This change affects all youth sports leagues under Austin Parks and Recreation from this summer onward.

The adjustment aims to provide consistency for young athletes involved in both recreational and school-based sports programs. According to officials, this move is expected to reduce confusion for families and ensure a more unified experience as children progress through different sports levels.

Additionally, starting in Fall 2025, families will have the option to register for both fall and winter youth sports seasons during a single registration period. For more information on registration dates, deadlines, and league schedules, individuals are encouraged to visit AustinTexas.gov/YouthSports or contact the Athletics Office at 512-978-2670.
