Austin Parks and Recreation Department is organizing a Community Seed Share event on Saturday, September 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Turner Roberts Recreation Center, located at 7201 Colony Loop Dr. The event will include a lecture about crop varieties suited to the local climate, a seed swap, cooking demonstrations, and workshops on saving seeds.
The educational activities will be conducted in both English and Spanish, with handouts available in English, Spanish, and Mandarin. The schedule features a lecture on local climate-adapted crop varieties starting at 10 a.m., followed by ongoing seed swaps until 2 p.m., where participants are encouraged to bring seeds to exchange.
Cooking demonstrations are scheduled from 12–12:45 p.m. and again from 1–1:45 p.m., with each session accommodating up to 20 participants. Concurrently, seed-saving workshops will take place during the same time slots, allowing for up to 30 participants per session. Those interested in attending these sessions must register in advance.
